Driving Lessons from the TIM HALL DRIVING SCHOOL, Cardiff
Lessons and What You Need Before You Start Learning To Drive
Before you can start driving on British public roads, you must be at least 17 years old, have eyesight that meets a required standard (see Direct Gov website) but if you can read a car number plate at about 25 metres, you should be fine. I will however check it on your first lesson. It doesn’t matter if you need to wear glasses or contact lenses, as long you always wear them for driving.
You also must have a valid UK Provisional Licence. I will need you to generate a special check code from the DVSA website to check that your licence is valid by following these instructions:
Please go to gov.uk, driving and transport, driving licences, view or share your driving licence information (bottom of list).
Once you've generated it, please send it to me, along with the last 8 characters of the licence number. It should just be a formality. I'll also need to see your licence when we meet.
Based near Roath Park, on the east side of the city, I offer pick-ups and drop-offs within Cardiff (not normally west of Ely Bridge i.e. Ely, Caerau, Culverhouse, Michaelstone).
1:1 tuition: I never pick up or drop off other pupils on your lessons.
Lessons can be 1 hour, 1.5 hours, 2 hours long, though I usually recommend 1 hour lessons for the first few hours, there’s a lot to learn, and most people find their heads are full after an hour!
I will contact you (if it is safe and legal for me to do so) in the rare event of me being delayed by more than a few minutes on the way to a lesson.
Typically my pupils require significantly less than Driving Standards Agency quoted average number of lessons to reach test standard.
My Pass rate is significantly above National and regional averages, as quoted by Driving Standards Agency.
Complete beginners, pupils restarting after a gap, pupils who have previously failed the Practical Test, and holders of full licences requiring extra practice are all welcome.
Lessons are at pupil’s pace, individually tailored to each pupil’s needs, but following the same basic order. I keep a calm, relaxed atmosphere in the car during lessons.
Don’t worry, you won’t drive around Gabalfa roundabout on your first lesson! Equally, you won’t be kept on quiet estates longer than necessary.
Diagrams are available to help your understanding of various situations and manoeuvres.
